Work to Straw’s Bridge - March 2012

Please bear with us for the next few weeks while improvement works are undertaken to the site. This will cause some disruption to the footpaths and car park.

The banks have been cleared of tired shrubbery. They will be reseeded and some new planting will be installed.

The banks are gradually being eroded. Work is being undertaken to slow the progress of this and provide a more attractive edging to the water.

Marginal plants have been planted on the far side of the lake. They will provide extra cover for the wildlife and help to slow the erosion of the banks.

The barley straw floating in the centre of the lake will help to reduce the level of blue algae in the water. This algae is harmful to animals and humans and in recent years has been a problem in summer.
