West Hallam Parish Council
Henry Shaw - a Tribute
On the 22nd August 2009 we lost a real character in Henry.
Henry served on West Hallam Parish Council and Erewash Borough Council (representing West Hallam and Dale Abbey) for 19+ years.  He was Chairman of the Parish Council,  Leader of his group at Erewash Borough Council and Mayor of the Borough all within the next few years.
Henry was a person who loved a good debate and he had a way of dropping an odd remark out and before you knew where you were everybody wanted to join in and have their say, he very often used to spark the debate and then sit back in satisfaction that he was getting everybody involved.  When he lost his position at Erewash several opposition members agreed that the Council Chamber would be a quieter and less interesting place without him.  Although controversial he was always ready to have a drink with friend and foe after some heated debates.
At parish and borough level if you had a problem there was no better person to have on your side, he was a 'talker' and a 'doer'.
Henry Shaw
10 April 1931 - 22 August
He was always there for me when I lost my husband John and it was Henry persuaded me to get involved in parish matters and carry on John's good work, he was always there for me with advice and assistance and he was a real friend.
Since losing his beloved wife, Nadine, his son Grant has always been there for him and they were not just father and son but best friends and they shared many holidays together over the last year or two.  Our thoughts are with Grant at this sad time.
Henry Shaw will be sadly missed by many, many friends.
